Suicide, needless to say, is anathema to Islam. No human being has the right to terminate his life, however noble the purpose may be. Even in the context of war, even when one is resisting aggression and oppression, one does not deliberately choose to be killed. According to the Hadith (saying of the Prophet of Muhammad), the Prophet “repudiated those who deliberately took their lives in the course of battle, even the soldier suffering from severe wounds.” As the Islamic scholar, Sohail H. Hashimi points out, “the Muslims fighter enters battle not with the intension of dying, but with the conviction that if he should die, it is for reasons beyond his control. Martyrdom is the will of God, not humans” - Chandra Muzaffar .
